Douglas Republicans Unanimously Endorse School Board Candidates

Your Douglas County Republican Central Committee vetted and endorsed three Republican candidates in school board races for the November election. At our September 14 monthly membership meeting, the Committee voted unanimously to endorse Susan Jansen, Katherine Dickerson, and Dave Burns.

Starla Doughty, the chair of the endorsement committee shared, “we developed an endorsement process that includes a written application and an interview." Committee Bylaws require the Endorsing Committee develop operating rules which the Executive Board must approve. A 2/3 minimum vote of the full Douglas Central Committee is required for any final endorsements.

All six candidates for school board were invited to participate. Candidates Robbe Lehmann, Heather Jackson, and Roberta Butterfield declined to participate in the endorsing process.

Interviewed candidates were questioned deeply about dangerous Critical Race Theory and Gender Fluidity advocacy infiltration in schools. They were also queried on their beliefs about the National Education Association, our Nevada Legislature directing schools to adopt policies that require teachers to present doctrines counter to what most households in this county believe.

Candidates were also asked about the Committee's Douglas County Republican Platform positions. Final approval of the three endorsed candidates was by unanimous vote of the full committee membership.

Central Committee Chair Jim McKalip said, “We have a platform that addresses issues concerning our schools, and these are candidates who are calling for actions and policies that will ensure the children in this county are taught well and kept safe.”

Your Douglas County School Board candidates were officially endorsed by unanimous vote of the full Douglas County Republican Central Committee:

School board is non-partisan position and the party committee was out of line to create an endorsement mechanism for school board positions. In addition this endorsement is a bad one. The endorsed candidates know little about DC Schools, are new residents to the area, have not children in the schools, have not spent time in the schools. These candidates and the committees efforts to ban CRT material from the classroom and from presenting the theory as a theory is "grab your pitchfork, light a torch, book burning" small minded and wrong. Trust the teachers, administrators, parents, and students to handle the controversial difficult cultural issues the nation faces. Ignoring and banning it will not make it go away. A…
